Canada's Dollar Rises to a 47-Year High as Crude Oil Advances

By Haris Anwar Oct. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Canada's dollar rose to its highest since 1960 after the price of crude oil advanced and the country's gross domestic product in August exceeded economists' expectations. Crude oil traded near $93 a barrel before the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect the Fed to cut U.S. interest rates, potentially weakening the dollar and making oil cheaper for foreign buyers. Commodities account for about half of Can... By Millie Munshi Oct. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Copper rebounded, snapping a two- day slump, after a government report showed the U.S. economy grew faster than economists forecast in the third quarter. Gross domestic product expanded at an annual rate of 3.9 percent in the quarter, the most since the first three months of 2006, the Commerce Department said today. Before today, copper declined 4.4 percent this month, partly on concern slower growth would damp demand in the U.S., the world's second-... (3 KB)
